Usage of IBC containers. Which one to choose?

IBC containers are the most widely used packaging for the transport and storage of a wide range of liquids, including hazardous substances. Compared to plastic barrels, the advantage of IBC containers lies in a larger storage volume, simple handling and the ability to stack empty IBC containers up to 4 layers.

IBC Containers with UN approval (UN 31HA1 / Y) comply with ADR and are therefore suitable for the storage and transport of hazardous substances. IBC containers labeled as RECO or REKO have a new internal plastic tank, steel cage and pallet after checking the technical condition. RECO IBC containers do not have UN certification. 1000 l IBC Container with SX / EX label are designed for the storage and transport of flammable substances in Ex zones 1 and 2. An electrically conductive steel casing of the certified 1000L IBC Container SX / EX protects the container from electrostatic discharge.

Notice on UN approval of IBC containers:
IBC containers can be used for the transport of dangerous substances, but only during the period of validity of the UN approval. According to the European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR Agreement), the maximum period for which the UN approval can be extended is 5 years (from the date month/year (MM/YYYY) indicated in the UN code, which is placed on the sheet plate of the IBC container), but also only at the condition that after 2.5 years the IBC container needs to be recertificated (an inspection test and a leak test) by an authorized authority. Otherwise, the IBC container cannot be used for the transport and handling of dangerous liquids.
